Trellis and Dormant Pruning Workshop
Trillium Vineyard (Bruce and Karen Cross)
1968 Old Bush Mill Rd, Bremen, GA 30110
770-841-7890 (Bruce cell)
No cost for VWAWGA members
$35 for non members (which is cost of membership)
Trillium Vineyard has a test plot in the middle of the vineyard with 4 varietals (Norton, Lenoir, Villard Blanc, and Blanc du Bois) on 3 training systems: Geneva Double Curtain (GDC), Vertical Shoot Positioning (VSP) and the Watson system. The vineyard was planted March 9, 2013 and exhibited vigorous growth the first year. Fritz Westover, our viticulture consultant, shared how to train the vines on each of the three systems and how to conduct dormant pruning to further the goals of each system as we roll into new spring growth and, ultimately, harvest in the summer.
The vines exhibited damage due to the cold winter. We experienced temperatures in the single digits for multiple days. Fortunately, this was a 30 year weather event and we hope to not see it again for the life of the vineyard. Thanks to Fritz for his instruction and guidance and to all who attended.
